Bateman

Master Artists Seminar

Oct 18 - 23, 2013

Presented by: Robert Bateman

  • The Arts

Join master wildlife painter Robert Bateman to explore the ideas and techniques that make a successful painting. Learn how to foster creative ideas, as a good idea is the basis for a strong work of art. Participate in slide presentations and discussions, talk about Robert’s work, and create a painting, explaining the subtleties of its execution. Discuss the history of art, focusing on principles you can apply in your own work. Learn techniques that will enable you to faithfully capture your concept and express your vision. Although not an art studio class, tips on techniques will be in abundance.

You are welcome to bring photographs of one or two paintings (35mm slides or preferrably on a disc in jpeg format) for discussion and (gentle) critique, and your camera, to photograph images of beautiful Cortes Island for use in your artwork. We will take at least one hike with a view to taking photographs for reference in future paintings.

Robert Bateman’s realistic painting style, featuring wildlife in its habitat, encourages examination of the natural world. He is a well-known artist, naturalist and spokesman for many environmental issues. The subject of numerous books and films, his honours and awards include Officer of the Order of Canada. robertbateman.ca
