Julian Griggs

Julian Griggs, co-founder of Dovetail Consulting Inc., is a well-loved Hollyhock presenter, a gifted facilitator and trainer certified with the International Association of Facilitators. Over the last 18 years he has facilitated hundreds of multi-party workshops, strategic planning processes, team meetings, coalition-building sessions, and conferences for academic, corporate, government, First Nations, non-profit organizations and the private sector in Canada, the U.S. and abroad. He specializes in collaborative approaches to land use planning and environmental management and has developed a reputation for his consistently high standard of work as a strategic advisor, facilitator, trainer, planner, and research/writer. He is particularly interested in bridging across cultures and designing robust and effective vehicles for co-management.

Julian completed his International Baccalaureate at the United World College of the Atlantic (1982), and graduated from Bristol University (UK, 1986) with a First in geology. He then spent three years working on various international development projects in Southern Africa and Northern India, and also completed a number of high altitude mountaineering ascents of peaks in Zanskar, Ladakh, Nepal and Bhutan. Julian came to Canada in 1988 on a commonwealth scholarship and completed his M.Sc. in Interdisciplinary Studies/Resource Management at UBC. After a year as a Research Associate at the Westwater Research Institute, he formed Dovetail Consulting with Julia Gardner in 1991. Julian also recently held a position as Adjunct Professor at UBC's Institute for Resources and Environment and is currently an Associate with SFU's Centre for Dialogue.

Julian lives in Vancouver with his wife and three daughters, and enjoys spending time outdoors in kayaks, on skis and in the mountains, and inside with a folk guitar.
