Dancing from the Inside Out
Presented by: Margie Gillis
Learn to listen to and follow your body’s impulses, inner conversations, and emotions to take dancing to a new realm. This unique process illuminates how your thoughts and emotions become messages that inform your body, telling it how to move. Experience the joy of transformation as you expand your creative capacity to imbue the shape, line, and articulation of each gesture with fuller meaning and deeper beauty. The course will help enhance both the quality of your performance and your knowledge of the choreographic process. Beginners gain an understanding of the fundamental elements in a dance, while the more experienced acquire greater knowledge of their own special ways of moving.
Margie Gillis is one of the few dancers in the world who has sustained a solo program for more than 35 years. As a choreographer and performer, she mesmerizes international audiences with her personal, emotional, and dramatic portrayals of human experience. In 1988 she was appointed to the Order of Canada and was awarded the Insignia of the Ordre National du Québec in 2009. In 2011 she received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement. www.margiegillis.org
"I choreograph and dance from a place deep inside, in order to make visible the imagery that lives in my body. I endeavor to bring to light and to work with the essential, vulnerable and authentic parts of our nature. I have always been fascinated by the miraculous links that exist between physical expression and the intellect, between emotions and spirituality. Dance... a means to catharsis, transformation and discovery." — Margie Gillis
